Attila
Gáspárik (the head of Marosvásárhely National Theatre, professor in university)
wrote to Robert Alföldi, the head of National Theatre.
Gáspárik
Attila sent a letter Robert Alföldi supporting him in applying for the job
(being the head of National Theatre) who is the head of National Theatre from
2007. Mr Robert's most known competitor is Attila Vidnyánszky (the head of
Theatre of Beregszász and the head of Csokonai Theatre in Debrecen. Attila
Gáspárik's letter, as one of the as a cross-border head of a theatre's
declaration is an important additive in the fierce debate around the National
Theatre. Theatre. Attila Vidnyánszky repeatedly said, according to him National
Theatre definitely need to strengthen the cross-border and rural societies
presence. The big part of the repertory would mean that cross-border shows.
Robert
Alföldi oftenly receives criticism which judges his institution anti-national
and Budapest centered. In additon he refute the accusations by specific
examples. Moreover he argues that 'cross-borderness' is not an aesthetic virtue
itself.
The
is the sharpest contrast between the two candites. Their perception regarding
the National Theatre. The minister of Human Resources will decide till 14
January who is suitable for being the head of National Theatre.
The
letter in full herein.
Dear
Robert Alföldi,
Days,
weeks, since I feel the urge to write to you. I procrastinated to write as in
usual in East Europe, as Pató Pál, but really hoping that's what I want to say,
will be solved meanwhile. I never like it when somebody yells in my work
especially those who are lurkers. In this game we are lurkers. Sorry, I am. I
vowed to write only of myself because many people warned me not to speak in
public. It is terrible for me that after two decades Ceaușescu's dictatorship I have to see and
experience that some people fear again. Not from secret police, not from tax
office but from another countries' powerful reasoning. From a country which is
called Mother Country. Well, I speak only of myself. Indeed I do not want if
National Theatre in Romania (there is the only Hungarian section) would be hurt
because of my opinion.
In
our case - it is true that nothing doing - our successful tender was awarded
two 2 million hungarian forints by which we wanted to bring shows to Hungary
but the money was locked. So I say I am a lurker. That is the figure who do not
get card because it is not their Card's Party but somehow he (me) is watching,
experience, happy or bewailing. As a lurker I say it is wrong what is preparing
around National Theatre. I do not doubt the professionalism of the other
candidates, but the circumstances surrounding the theater refers to a political
decision is made. I know you're not chasing one you used around the piano to
Robi However, you have to be Director, when you grow up. You did your job as an
actor, director, televisioner és suddenly National Theatre had fallen you. We
look for the content day by day. The content, which is behind the
mount-ornamented words. Here and now. As I see it - remotely sometimes one can
see more clearly, you have found the recipe. Theater quality, high viewership,
with an international outlook, new questions, new answers. You create a theatre
where we - labelled as cross-over artists - we feel good. When we play there or
just watch a show we do not feel the
difference, distinction, rural status, poor smell. It is good to be Hungarian
actor there as good as in Paris, in Warsaw, in London, though with Romanian
passport, represent the hungarian culture. I seem to be selfish to speak a lot
about ourselves but beleive me many people are waiting for the continue.
There
are some people who will be talented due to a political change... Well dear my
friend, you grasp, but if the Big Director do not want You that makes me happy
because you can work more robustly as an actor, as director. And there always
be a place where you can read if it is not the bank of the Danube but the bank
of the Maros. Welcome (for a quieter time!)

Attila Gáspárik, the CEO of Marosvásárhely National Theatre, professor,

Levente Szörényi's letter to Robert Alföldi
22 th of November 2012
The composer told his
opinion in connection with National Theatre's competition and on the occasion
of the Stephen, the king show (it had the 30th anniversary). Mr Levente and
Sándor Bródy announced in 1st October that the rock opera show will be seen in
the Theatre by Robert Alföldi next year.
Dear Robi!
You called be that is
why I write this letter. First of all I would like to point out: there is no
predetermination which force me to tell my opinion about the administrative
cases of any instituion - it can be cultural or other. Artistic independence and
freedom of creation are much more important if it is about a major talent who
can hardly bear the shackles. Although people can beleive that there are many
types of difference between Robert Alföldi and Levente Szörényi: world views,
value systems, taste, asset-term, so almost all these separate them. But I have
to say there is one thing which can link us: the responsibility of the artist
towards his contemporaries and future generation. I can watch your shows in the
National Theatre and that was standar for me and that convinced me about a
thing. That you know your artistic mission. When we asked - me and my fellow
author - you to direct our two most important shows (Stephen, the king and
Kelemen Kőműves) these experiences drove me.
Further your works -
perhaps understably selfishly - I wish you good luck especially for our common
production.
Budapest, 23th
October, 2012
Best regards,
Levente Szőrényi,
